14 mm vs 16 mm Pickleball Paddles

How to compare thickness alongside construction and weight.

Compare like with like

Thickness is most useful when comparing two versions in the same product family. Even then, confirm weight, dimensions and construction: the variants may differ in more than two millimeters.

What Thickness Tells You

Compare core material and construction alongside thickness. Friction Pro V2 has a honeycomb construction with an EVA foam ring; Power FX uses a foam construction.

Test touch and fast exchanges

Include dinks (soft shots after the bounce that land in the opponent’s non-volley zone), resets (taking pace off an attacking ball to return it softly into that zone), blocks and drives (attacking groundstrokes that may use topspin). Note depth control and preparation for the next ball.

Record Each Version Separately

For each variant, record handling, contact consistency, soft-game confidence and total price. If the difference is unclear, fit and budget are better reasons to decide than a general thickness claim.

Hyperion C2: 14 and 16 mm

Hyperion C2 CFS 14 and 16 both measure 16.5 × 7.5 in. Their average weights are 7.8 oz and 8 oz respectively. Moving to the 16 mm version changes both the thickness and the listed average weight.

Phoenix: 13.3 and 16 mm with the Same Outer Dimensions

Outer dimensions, handle length and weight range are the same. Core thickness differs.

Aurelius: Three Thicknesses, Different Weight Ranges

C45 Aurelius versions share a 15.7 × 7.9 in outline and a 5.1 in handle. Their weight ranges overlap; check the individual paddle’s weight when ordering.
