Choose the shuttle type and speed used at your court. Temperature grades belong to a specific shuttle range.
Feather and synthetic skirts
A feather shuttle uses individual feathers; a nylon shuttle uses a molded synthetic skirt. Agree on one type before practice or a match. Training with the type your club uses lets you compare shots under consistent conditions.
MAVIS 350 cap colors
MAVIS 350 uses cap colors for speed. The manufacturer’s temperature ranges overlap. White and yellow refer to the skirt color.
| Cap | Speed | Temperature |
|---|---|---|
| Green | Slow | 22–33 °C |
| Blue | Medium | 12–23 °C |
| Red | Fast | 0–13 °C |
Feather grades use another scale
AEROSENSA 30 uses temperature grades 1–5. Yonex also notes that altitude affects flight; use this scale for AEROSENSA rather than MAVIS cap colors.
| Grade | Temperature |
|---|---|
| 1 | 33 °C and above |
| 2 | 27–33 °C |
| 3 | 22–28 °C |
| 4 | 17–23 °C |
| 5 | 18 °C and below |
Check the tube before buying
MAVIS 350 is listed as six shuttles per tube, while AEROSENSA 30 has twelve. Compare the price per shuttle as well as the tube price, and check the speed designation used by your club. Remove shuttles with a damaged skirt or feathers from match play.
